LAWNS
- Mow if grass is growing and if dry
It is too early to apply general fertiliser except for in very mild areas. Sulphate of iron can be applied for the control of moss. PLANTED BEDS AND POTS
Overgrown hedging – this is an ideal time of year to trim back overgrown hedging.
Ornamental grasses can be thinned out and dead leaves removed.
Bare root deciduous plants can continue to be planted to the end of February.
We are still in an ideal period of time for moving overgrown plants.
Dividing of overgrown perennials. Their new home should have topsoil well forked over and the addition of well rotted farmyard manure.
All overgrown climbers should be cut back heavily. Climbers that are not self adhering should be re-fixed to the wall.
All pruning of Roses should be finished immediately.
Hand weeding of planted beds and mulching. This will help with the control of weeds. GREEN HOUSE
- Time to start sowing seeds for summer flowers
If you are growing on the floor of the tunnel, now is the time to dig in well rotted farmyard manure and ground seaweed. HOUSE PLANTS
- Allow plants to dry out. Do not overwater.
Pot bound plants should be potted on to bigger size pots, with free draining soil mixed with ground seaweed.
